COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 10 Saint John's basketball begins the 2025 NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday, March 7, at the University of Chicago. The Division III national 64-team field was announced Monday (March 3). SJU (24-3, 15-1 MIAC) faces the Maroons (18-7, 9-5 UAA), who earned an at-large bid after tying for third place in the University Athletic Association. The Johnnies are 2-0 all-time against Chicago: winning 64-61 on Dec. 14, 2008, in Collegeville and 90-87 on Nov. 28, 2010, in Chicago. No. 16 Illinois Wesleyan (22-5, 12-4 CCIW) faces Bethany Lutheran (14-13, 9-5 UMAC) in the other game Friday night. Start times have not been released for either game. Friday's winners play Saturday night for the chance to advance to the Sweet 16.IWU ended the 2024-25 regular season No. 9 in the NCAA's final National Power Index (NPI), followed by SJU (No. 19), Chicago (No. 34) and Bethany Lutheran (No. 236).The national postseason appearance is the 22nd (13th at the Division III level) and fifth in the last seven seasons for the Johnnies, who earned the conference's automatic bid with a 74-59 win over Carleton March 1 for the program's fourth MIAC Playoff championship in the last six tournaments (ninth overall).
