With all eyes on the big four leagues, NBA, NHL, NFL and MLB, the inaugural season of the PWHL (Professional Women's Hockey League) has come to a close. The league, like the NHL, have their version of the original six with teams in New York, Boston, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and of course Minnesota. The 2024 season saw Boston and Minnesota in an epic battle for the Walter Cup with Minnesota coming out on top 3-0 in game 5, taking the series 3-2.
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to Minnesota as the first PWHL champions (Maybe next year we'll get a team name).
Second, while the male dominated sports get the national attention, the women's side of sports have been existing somewhat in the background. Whether it's the WNBA or PWHL, they fight hard night after night and deserve the spotlight and recognition. In Minnesota, between the Lynx and PWHL Minnesota, we have five national championships which is more than all other current Minnesota NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL teams combined (of course if you don't count the five championships from the then Minneapolis Lakers who are now in LA).
If the Boston/Minnesota series is any indication of season two, it should be a fun season next year.
