SCSU Huskies baseball drops two at Minnesota-Crookston

GAME 1 – UMC 4, SCSU 3

SCSU held two leads in the first game, first taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI double from senior Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) in the third inning and then again at 2-1 when redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) hit his fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning. The Huskies extended their lead to 3-1 in the fifth by executed a double steal when Guthrie stole second, causing freshman Austin Baumhover (Van Meter, Iowa) to make a break for home. UMC responded with a two-run home run in the fifth inning to tie the game and then a sacrifice fly in the seventh to walk off the Huskies.

GAME 1 – UMC 10, SCSU 3

In the second game, UMC took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but SCSU fought back and tied the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning on another RBI double from Guthrie. Crookston then scored eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take control of the game and win 10-3.

SCSU will next host Minot State for a three-game series at Joe Faber Field on April 26-27. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT and a single game on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. CT. Saturday will serve as Parent's Day and Alumni Day, while Sunday will serve as Senior Day.
